LAS VEGAS — A public defender says he plans an insanity defense for a Las Vegas 19-year-old facing two murder charges in the slayings of his young cousin and, later, his jail cellmate.
Carl Guilford pleaded not guilty to murder charges Monday in Clark County District Court.
Loading...CommentsWeigh InCorrections?Deputy Public Defender Norman Reed tells KVVU-TV Fox5 (http://bit.ly/GBaE3n ) the plea is just part of the process for Guilford.
Guilford told police he heard demon voices after suffocating his 6-year-old cousin last May and before Francesco Sanfilippo was beaten and stabbed to death with a pencil in July in their Clark County jail cell.
Guilford’s mother told police her son is bipolar and talks about angels, demons and “sacrifices.”
State doctors in Sparks have ruled Guilford competent for trial if he is medicated.
